Chapter Eighteen

We drove through the city falling into chaos. Checking the radio and smartphone, it was clear that panic was spreading as beetles, obsidian soldiers and other strange creatures unleashed havoc.

“At least it seems like the monsters are staying in Hollywood and not spreading out farther.”

“Don't try to sugarcoat it. This disaster is beyond that.” Jolita shot me a look.

It was full night by the time we made it through the chaos and to Magnum HQ.

The Impala pulled up at a safe distance away from the sleek skyscraper.

“It looks like the feds or whoever are already expecting someone coming here with ill intentions.” Jolita peered at the building with high powered binoculars and her eye for larceny.

Squinting and taking a peek through the binoculars, I saw what she was referring to. The perimeter of the building was surrounded by armed guards, at least a dozen of them, probably more that we couldn't see. I gulped. “I... guess we could try taking them on.”

“You mean I could take them on, with my glyphs. And hell yeah, let’s do it.”

“Wait. I know you’ll call me a pussy and all, but I don't want to risk it. Look, they have M16’s or something. Besides, we’d be losing the element of surprise. Editor Guy has some kind of connection to the Supranormals, so who knows who he has guarding him. Not only that but he has the book. The element of surprise is the only thing that gives us a chance in hell.”

“Damn it!” Jolita punched the wheel. “I hate it when you're right!”

“Well, we just need to find a way in.”

“Come on,” Jolita rolled the wheel, and her eyes.
